The release of As Above, So Below takes the number of books in the Laundry RPG line-up to nine, so today we thought we’d take a closer look at those, and how this latest supplement fits into your games.
Our new Laundry supplement, As Above, So Below, is in truth two supplements in one, for it covers both the political mandarins of Westminster, as well as the elite Special Forces soldiers tasked with carrying out their orders. In today's blog, we take a look at this latter side of the supplement, as well as present the new Special Forces character sheet for you to download.
As Above, So Below is two supplements in one, covering both gaming the machinations of the politicians in Mahogany Row, and playing the Special Forces operatives tasked with carrying out their orders. In The Laundry RPG you play officers of the Laundry, that eccentric and underfunded agency dedicated to protecting the United Kingdom from unthinkable horrors.
As above, so below.
Few of our decisions really mean anything. File that report, fill that spreadsheet, attend that meeting – and at the end of the day, did any of that matter? Few of us make life and death decisions – and that's a luxury. Even in the Laundry, that secret branch of government charged with protecting the world from horrors unimaginable, most decisions are inconsequential. Do you fix the printer in the HR office first or the DVD drive in the travel laptop first? Do you read the files about the incidence of birth deformations in cattle near dimensional weak spots, or the new directive on time tracking work emails while out of the office? (Hint: neither of them will ever have any future relevance to you).
This supplement for The Laundry RPG is about two very different types of people whose decisions matter.
In the programme given away at Dragonmeet back in December was a brand-new asset for use with The Laundry RPG – Casefile ORNERY OCTAL – and it seemed to go down really well with fans. Well, it turns out that there are more Laundry fans than Dragonmeet attendees, so by popular demand we’re giving it away here to download for free.
This is but one of the assets found in the forthcoming Targets of Acquisition, a PDF-only supplement that features files on some of The Laundry’s most coveted occult artefacts, as well as plot hooks and advice for using them in your games.
Welcome back! We’ve all been away over Easter taking a well-earned break, but are back at our respective desks and raring to go!
We’ve got all sorts of news and new products for you over the coming weeks, from Keltia and The SOE Handbook for World War Cthulhu: The Darkest Hour, to covers for forthcoming One Ring supplements, our next Kickstarter and more besides – as always, keep an eye on the website! The Eighth Doctor Sourcebook is also in US stores this week, and we’ll be taking another look at that tomorrow.
But, today we thought we’d take a quick look back at some of our recent news and new releases, to bring you all up to speed.
The Laundry RPG recently appeared in a Bundle of Holding deal, and we were bowled over by the response. The Laundry is now in the hands of hundreds more gamers.
As is inevitable with such a darkly funny book, parts of it have started appearing on social media as new Laundry players share their personal highlights with their friends. One particular section from the print edition of the core Laundry manual seems to have really struck a chord. At the time of writing it's been retweeted 647 times, with 520 favourites. It has had 145 +1s on Google plus and 126 shares. It's just reaching Facebook now as far as we can see.
We've never really gone viral before (there was that one time with the Yggdrassil video on youtube but that's another story), so we thought we'd share.
@hishgraphics shared this shot of the Laundry core book, and it's gone crazy:
About The Laundry
The Laundry Files Roleplaying Game novels by Charles Stross. In the game, you play officers of the Laundry, that eccentric and underfunded agency dedicated to protecting the United Kingdom from unthinkable horrors. The Laundry uses the Basic Roleplaying System - the same system that powers the classic Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game (so you can easily convert adventures from one game to the other). As Laundry staff, you're trained to deal with the weird and ghastly spawn of the Mythos, you're equipped with the best equipment your committee-approved mission budget can buy, and you've got back-up on call from the SAS.
All of that means you're only terrifyingly underprepared, as opposed to completely screwed, when the shoggoth hits the fan.
Some reviews of the Laundry RPG:
